We have had the great opportunity to spend many summers in the mountains running camps and teaching outdoor skills to hundreds of people. As we returned to our "real lives" we continued to be the "go to" guys in our neighborhood for questions relating to outdoor skills of all types. Youth groups and many individuals requested seminars on Dutch Oven Cooking, CPR and first aid skills, canoeing or rowing classes, archery, map and compass and GPS use, as well as tips on hunting, fishing and camping.
One day a friend suggested we put the information on the web and the concept of Outdoor Skills Made Easy was born. Our purpose is to teach introductory lessons which will make your first experience with each skill as successful as it is enjoyable. I am the main skills instructor and Tim is the camera man, editor in chief, and computer expert, who makes the delivery of these courses to you possible. We hope you enjoy learning your new skills as much as we enjoy teaching them.

Try this Bacon Chicken Dutch Oven with us!
Try this Bacon Chicken Dutch Oven with us! You know we like to try new recipes, and the easier the better. So today we're trying a chicken Dutch oven recipe with a twist.
It's just this easy:
Ingredients
½ lb. Bacon
4-5 skinless chicken thighs, (trimmed if needed)
1 onion sliced
1 ½ cups Baby Carrots
1 ½ cup Baby Potatoes
11/2 cups Snap Peas or Snow Peas
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon season salt
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 cups chicken broth/stock
Instructions
Make sure your vegetables are washed and clean and that your onion is sliced.
Crisp the bacon and set it aside
Add 1 tablespoon of butter to (no more than 1 tablespoon) bacon grease, and brown the chicken thighs.
When the chicken is browned on both sides, set it aside.
Prepare the gravy
Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter to the Dutch oven.
When the butter is melted, add the sliced onions, season salt, dried thyme, and garlic powder.
Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onion is softened.
Sprinkle in the flour and stir for about 1 minute.
Pour in the broth and stir to combine, scraping up any brown bits from the bottom of the Dutch oven.
Add carrots, potatoes, and snow peas.
Simmer for 4-5 minutes stirring occasionally.
Place the browned chicken thighs back into the Dutch oven, nestling them into the brown gravy. (They don’t have to be fully submerged)
Top with bacon.
Cook for 15-18 minutes.
The chicken should reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees.
If the chicken is cooked but the potatoes or carrots aren’t tender enough, just remove the chicken and let the vegetables cook for another 5 minutes or until they’re ready. Then place the chicken back in the Dutch oven.
Serve and enjoy!

Thank you very much for your advice! ☺🙏 Could you tell me how I should handle sweaty leather boots? Is it problematic in or in front of the tent? Or I don't have to worry about it?
Where do you store food if your staying in camper trailer for a long period of time?
This best explanation related to how to row a Canoe with 1 paddle. Thanks a lot 🤝

Hmm, I never considered there may be people wondering about the uses of a bandana... You see a lot of bikers with a bandana in their pocket, too. For the hipster guys it's just for show since they're playing a role for attention, but guys who fix their own bikes and ride a lot keep them for the many uses. They block sun and painful rain, you can use it like an "oven mitt" when you've got to pull a hot spark plug, place it on the driveway outside your girl's house so you don't leave oil for her husband to find later, and they also work pretty well at substituting for zipties in a pinch when something falls apart.
Thanks for adding your tips
Awesome info, very well done video. This is a very important knowledge in order to survive in the wild year around. Thank you very much my friend for sharing.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
What location are you at?
Southern Utah
@@OSMEtv ok. Thank you I’m in Hurricane.
How to use a bandana to open a 40oz without being a menace in the woods.
No seasonings?
I just got back from a steep hike and realized I’m not so balanced as I’ve gotten older. I just started looking at trekking poles. Thanks for your insight
My wife bought me one today. I'm looking forward to trying it!
Thank you. Having hiked about a dozen mountains now, and having gotten lost, this basic explanation truly helps me feel more confident.
So glad it was helpful. Happy and safe hiking!
I've strained coffee through a bandana while camping when I had no filter.

Thank you for your kind comments!
thanks for the informative video, I wasn't sure when it was appropriate to apply moleskin :)
Glad it was helpful!
Super helpful. Thanks!
You're welcome!
Great video!
Thanks!
I just received a notice and my auger is coming tomorrow finally lol, I had one before but very cheap and it broke so this one should last longer I hope, your branch was already pretty small and didn't take much wood, that's ok but if you use a bigger branch you'll see that it get stuck and hard to take it out, put some Vaseline or oil/grease around the inside first and it will come out easier, if you know witch plants available in the woods too, I use bacon grease one time lol, if you need to make a big hole all the way to a log better get a longer bit model and these are for hole 3-5 inches deep, can't wait to try this new model. ')
Great comments! Thanks!
@@OSMEtv I tried it last Friday and it's much better than the other one I got before, 2 times easier to work with but didn't bring anything to lubricate and I just spit on it and it worked better than I thought so another way when you don't have anything in hand. ')
TIP # 1 Don’t bring food 😂
very nice rig. will try it next time i'm in the bush. thanks for sharing
So helpful!
I was using the English Gate Test when I was teaching canoeing in 1981 for the Boy Scouts in northern Florida. I was using the full test that included paddling backwards through the gate and along the sides. The scouts enjoyed the test and learned how to do it both tandem and solo.
It's a great teaching tool for solo and tandem. Thanks for sharing!
thanks +

They will bite you, act all cute and stuff until you’re close enough. Coyotes do the same.
I chant the Hari Krishna for hours at a time hiking in bear country.
Jay shree Krishna🕉️❤️❤️💦🙏
Wonderful stuff and great presentation. I am dead-center of bear country (Lincoln County, NM - essentially where Smokey Bear CAME from) and relatively new to the area, but I also do a ton of car camping - with food, snacks, smellables, even a 12V fridge in my car. It's really tough to figure out how to "practically" handle the situation, especially when my family is with me. Fridge in car front seat while we sleep in back? Fridge outside, under awning? Fridge under a tarp 100 feet away? I simply don't believe that every single weekend-warrior camper with a trailer/RV is emptying their entire cooler/fridge into a bear bag a long distance away from camp. There's just no way that all the people and campsites I see are going through all this effort. Most of them probably don't even know they're SUPPOSED to care about this stuff. (Not saying that's a good thing, just that I'm positive most people don't go through all this effort). And at the same time, I also know that 99% of these campers/campsites aren't having any problems with bears this weekend. Still, it keeps me awake at night sometimes, I will admit. So, it feels really hard to figure out exactly how I should be handling the situation! Right now I'm at the stage of "do a good job, and remember that bears are around, but perfection is probably not necessary or even possible." That said, I have bear spray and a firearm available. God willing, they will never need to be used. I love bears, they are one of the coolest and cutest animals and certainly worthy of infinite respect. Thanks for the video :)
It's basically the same as a painters plateform which works well along with feed pans you can get the plaltform at home depot at times they have them on sale for 49 dallars they normally go for around 80 i havent checked but you might be able to get them at harbor freight
I wish this man was my dad
That's very kind! Thank you!
Wondering if you would provide the measurements for the pieces please? 😊
Thanks for the question. 48-In x 1-In dowels that you can purchase at any home improvement store. We just cut the dowels for the seat on the fly. Happy camping!
